Finally a New Post!

Mom and Dad Dueck have come and gone and our visiting weekend has come to an end. It was a good weekend doing some sight seeing, playing some popsicle sticks and watching Ryan convocate (that will be a whole post on its own!).
Apparently Mom and Dad had not done any sight seeing of Nanaimo during their previous visits because one was to help us move the rest of our stuff to the island (very quick trip) and the other was during December when we had tons of snow on the ground. So, we did a few very "Nanaimo" things with them this time to give them a little idea of what Nanaimo is like.

This picture is taken down at the water front. It was a beautiful sunny day, a little windy but otherwise very nice. We walked along the seawall and out onto the dock where people crab. We even got to see the resident seal up close and personal while we were out walking on the dock.

We also went for a walk around Westwood Lake. It is a beautiful lake and the walk is wonderful as well, you feel like you are right in the forest. Last summer we spent a lot of time at this lake swimming in the water and playing in the sand. During the summer months there is a life guard on duty during the daytime hours so it is nice to bring the kids there to swim.
Arbutus trees are native trees around these parts and I absolutely love them. Our neighbours have one that the kids like climbing and around Westwood there are many as well. The bark peels off and leaves a very smooth trunk underneath which can make it hard to climb, but my two monkeys seem to find a way.
This was at a look-out point while we were walking around the lake. It is about a 6 km walk, so it is a fairly big lake, as you can see from the picture.

It was a great afternoon and a wonderful visit! Always too short but very enjoyable all the same!!
